“Unwholesome Talk”
This is the weekly email devotional of WhoUWith? Ministries (2004)

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29

O.K. we've talked about this before, but let's have a review...

"What is unwholesome talk"?
  • A. cursing?
  • B. gossip?
  • C. negative talk?
  • D. complaining about the boss/coach/etc.?
  • E. All of the above
Actually, there are probably several more examples of “unwholesome talk”, but there is more than enough for me to work on in the list above!

Why is it so hard to speak positively, not negatively?…to speak blessings, not curses?…to be upbeat, not down and out?

It has been said that a person’s tongue reveals a person’s heart and soul. If that is the case then I have a very sarcastic heart and soul!! What is your tongue revealing about you? Many of us use our tongue to be accepted by those around us, or to prove we are a “man”, or to get our point across. But is it really so important to be accepted by those around you that you wound the heart of God? Which would you rather be a “man”, or a Godly man? And getting your point across at the cost of the respect of those who look up to you!

What does God’s Word say?:

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. James 3:9-10

Instead of being a character today, why not reveal yourself to have character? Speak something positive and uplifting to someone today!

Just a thought!
