“Things” This is the weekly email devotional of WhoUWith? Ministries (2004)   “The best things in life are not things.” --Unknown I thought life was all about things! Isn’t that the American dream? Isn’t success determined by how many “things” we have? Isn’t it true that the one who dies with the most toys wins? NO…NO…NO! Life is much more than wealth, toys, things, etc. Life has everything to do with people and places, and moments with both. Do you really think the next house, car, promotion or starting position on the team, is going to make you happy? Is that where the peace of life exists? Please don’t kid yourself. You can get a bigger house, a nicer car, a big promotion, and a starting position on the team and still be miserable and lacking contentment. Those are just “things” that take up space and time, but are any of those lasting? What does God’s Word say?: And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world-- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does-- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. I John 2:15-17 So, should we strive to be all we can be in the world we live? Yes! Just be careful not to allow the world to consume us. It is so easy to get busy doing good things and lose sight of what are the best things. Please don’t let “things” crowd out your time with family and friends. Don’t let “things” keep you away from time with Christ.. Success is great! Having stuff is fun! But neither of these makes for a sufficient Savior. There is only One who is worthy to be worshipped and His name is above every “thing”…Jesus! .....Let’s keep the main thing, the main thing! Just a thought!
