"It's not about you." -Rick Warren

Rick Warren's book, "The Purpose Driven Life", has taken our country by storm. It has been on the bestseller's list for months. If you haven't read it yet, you need to get a copy!

Anyway, his opening line in the book is; "It's not about you". Funny, in the world I see through entertainment (TV, movies, news, etc.) I'm told it is all about me...it's about what I can get from life...it's about me deciding right from wrong...it's about me determining my future.

What does God’s Word say?:

If people's thinking is controlled by the sinful self, there is death. But if their thinking is controlled by the Spirit, there is life and peace. When people's thinking is controlled by the sinful self, they are against God, because they refuse to obey God's law and really are not even able to obey God's law. Those people who are ruled by their sinful selves cannot please God. Romans 8:6-8 (NCV)

When you do things, do not let selfishness or pride be your guide. Instead, be humble and give more honor to others than to yourselves. Do not be interested only in your own life, but be interested in the lives of others. In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:3-5

When I was younger I really thought it was about me...where I went to college was about me...what career I chose was about me...who I married was about me...how successful I became was about me. Now that I'm getting a little older, I'm thankful God had a plan and purpose for my life and I realize just how little I had to do with any of those things!

Don't misunderstand, I really feel God wants us to push ourselves and strive for excellence in all we do. However, what is our motivation? Who is steering the ship? Are the desires for these things coming from our selfish hearts, or from our Lord and Savior? One thing I know for sure is man's plans will fail, but God's plans never fail.

For you, whom will it be about today? You, or the One who made you, died for you and loves you!

Just a thought!
