"Missionary vs. Mission Field"
This is the weekly email devotional of WhoUWith? Ministries (2004)

"Everyone is either a missionary, or a mission field." -Alan Duncan, missionary in South Africa

About 15 years ago, I felt God start calling me to full-time ministry. I was more than a little scared. Many of us have had been at church when the visiting missionary comes with a slide presentation of a tribe in the jungle and a hut he would call their "church". I just knew that if I went into ministry God was going to send me somewhere near the equator and, other than an occasional postcard, I would never know civilization again! Can you sense the anxiety?

A strange thing happen on the way to the equator. I realized that whether I'm overseas, in a jungle, or on Main St. USA, I'm a missionary for Christ. And whether I'm in full-time vocational ministry, or if I'm flipping burgers at McDonald's, I'm called to the same purpose. For any of us who have asked Christ to be the Lord of our heart and lives, we have become an ambassador for God Almighty.

What does God’s Word say?:

But when the Holy Spirit comes to you, you will receive power. You will be my witnesses-in Jerusalem, in all of Judea, in Samaria, and in every part of the world." Acts 1:8

I am proud of the Good News, because it is the power God uses to save everyone who believes-to save the Jews first, and also to save those who are not Jews. Romans 1:16

The question for you today is what are you? Are you a missionary? You have come to the point of surrendering your heart and life to Christ. Or, are you a mission field? You are still holding on to things in this world that you hope will one day make you happy (fame, money, power, sex, self-actualization, etc.) and are not willing to give everything over to Christ.

It is my prayer that if you are a "missionary", you will start expressing your love and commitment to Christ through an obedient and victorious life! And if you are a "mission field", you will revisit the sacrifice of Christ for you. Christ paid a debt (our sins) He did not owe, for a debt (our sins) we could not pay! He died for you, why can't you live for Him?

Just a thought!
