"If you lend someone $20, and never see
that person again, it was probably worth it." -Unknown
What is the old saying?..."God is good, all the
time!"
If you are like me, as you
read the quote above, someone immediately came to mind (I hope it wasn't me).
We have all had experiences with folks who were takers and not givers. They may
have meant well, but it ends with hollow promises and feelings of distrust.
There is not a lot you can do to
change a person like this...leave the changing stuff to God. However, there are
two lessons to be learned from situations like theses. First, how we react and
treat this person will either reveal our faith, or our flesh. Second, we need
to self-evaluate our lives and make sure we haven't done someone else wrong.
Maybe we owe someone a "$20"!
What does God's Word have to
say?:
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe
that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each
other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with
everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for
it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the
contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him
something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do
not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans
12:18-21
I don't think we
should ever allow ourselves to be run over, but we must choose our mountains to
stand on and let the insignificant hills of life go on by. Holding
unforgiveness in our heart only makes us bitter and does nothing to change the
other person.
Why not forgive
someone today? You may never see them again, but you will be free from the hold
of bitterness that they have had on you. It could be the best "$20" you ever
lost!
Just a thought!
