“Leader”
This is the weekly email devotional of WhoUWith? Ministries (2006)

“An army of sheep led by a lion would defeat an army of lions led by a sheep.” --Old Arab Proverb

What is a leader? There are so many books and definitions out there of what a leader looks like and should be. Here are my top five attributes for a real leader:
  1. Leaders know how to praise, encourage and serve those around them.
  2. Leaders are always looking to improve themselves.
  3. Leaders dream.
  4. Leaders do what is right rather than what is popular.
  5. Leaders never allow complaining from others, or themselves.
What kind of leader are you? Is it easy for others to follow you, or do you always have to “rally the troops”? Do people respect you, because you respect them?

What does God's Word say?:
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Philippians 2:3-4

Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 1 Peter 5:5-6

Humility is a lost art in leadership today. But think about it, whom would you rather follow? Someone who is proud and arrogant. Or, someone who is humble and looking to serve. Be the kind of leader that YOU would want to follow!

Just a thought!
