"I wasn't planning on doing that, but when
the time came I knew it was what I had to do." -Shelby Brown
An awesome thing happen in
the Brown family last week...Shelby, our oldest daughter, surrendered her heart
and life to Christ! Aimee and I had been talking with her a little about how
she can have a personal relationship with Jesus, but usually I would get the
response, "Dad, you scare me when you talk serious."
At an event our church sponsored last week, the
simple truths of God's Word were shared with about 500 students...God loves
you, you are a sinner, Christ died for those sins and by faith God wants to be
the "big boss" of your heart and life. There was an invitation for those who
were ready to make God the boss of their lives to come and talk with an adult
about that decision. Shelby said later, "I wasn't planning on doing that, but
when the time came I just knew I had to do it."
What does Gods Word say?:
"for
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God", Romans
3:23
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."Romans
6:23
"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is
Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it
is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans
10:9-10
How cool is it
that God makes trusting in Him easy enough for a child to understand? But how
strange it is that us "adults" have the hardest time with surrendering
ourselves to God Almighty. We are afraid we will have to give up too much...or
that others will think we have become weird Jesus freaks...or God won't love us
because of all the bad things we have done.
Wrong on all the above. If anybody is giving up
too much it is God (He gave His Son), we should care more about what God thinks
of us than what others say about us and God wants you just the way you are bad
past and all!
When we asked Shelby
how she felt about having Jesus as her "forever friend"? She said, "I'm happy."
What about you? Are you happy? Have you ever come to a point where you
surrendered your heart and life to Christ? If not, then why not today?
Just a thought!
