“Heroes & Legends”

“Heroes are not forgotten, but legends never die. Go with your heart.” --from the movie, “The Sandlot”

As a boy I would image myself being a superhero. Saturday mornings were filled with watching “The Super Friends and the Legion of Doom”. I thought Flash and Green Lantern were two of the coolest dudes. The only reason Aqua Man didn’t make my heroes “dream team” was due to my fear getting swallowed by a whale, which is a real possibility when you grow up in Tennessee!!

I also had real life heroes growing up. My grandfather was a hero to me. He taught me a lot about being a man. My mom was a hero. She started out as a single parent trying to raise a son…she did the best she could, but she didn’t have much to work with!

I guess it is true that heroes are not easily forgotten. But what about legends? I only know of one true legend. There is only one legend who will never die. I’ll never forget when I first heard about Him. I was told He suffered, died and then rose from the dead and He did all of that for me. That made Him more than just a hero…it made Him a legend to me.

What does God’s Word say?:

For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit. 1 Peter 3:18

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

As I got older I realized that there was no such thing as super heroes…they are only cartoons. And my real life heroes are still the same; as a matter of fact I have probably added a few new ones to the list. But there is still only One who is a legend to me.

Man has been trying since the beginning of time to be a hero…be a legend…be a god, but we always fall short in our attempts to reach God. Sin is our kryptonite. It wasn’t until God reached down to us through Christ that we were rescued from our sin.

He doesn’t wear a cape, but He did bear a cross. He is more than a hero, or even a legend, He is Savior and Lord. Are you looking for a hero to rescue you? Why not call on Christ today?

Just a thought!
