"Daddy, I'm not hung...it's a real fish!!!" --Shelby Brown

On a family trip to Virginia, this past weekend, my oldest daughter, Shelby, learned to fish with a lure. Her biggest challenge was keeping the lure from getting stuck on unseen debris under the surface of the water. We fished for what seemed like hours in a pond behind my brother-in-law's house. Feeling like I was neglecting the other two girls, I left Shelby on the banks and went to play with her younger sisters.

I had just gotten up to the house when I heard Shelby start screaming, "Daddy, I'm not hung...it's a real fish!" When I got back to her (out of breath from a full sprint), she had a huge large mouth bass on the line. It was at least five pounds! Shelby was so proud, but not near as much as her daddy!

What does God’s Word say?:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. ? Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ? Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3

Life is a lot like fishing. You have to know where all the unseen debris is so you don't get hung, break your line and loose your lure. Just like fishing, life can get very frustrating. You try to do all the right things, but they just aren't hitting your bait.

The trick is to not quit! Yes, you are going to get tangled up at times, but keep on trying...keep on throwing your line out. Stay focused on Christ...keep pursuing Him. If your line breaks in life, then put another lure on and get back to fishing!

For Shelby, the best part of fishing was having her daddy help her when she got hung and to cheer for her when she caught a whopper. This is also the best thing about life...having our heavenly Daddy help us when we get hung and cheer us on when we hook a "big one"!

Just a thought!
