"God is far more interested in what you
are, than what you do." -Rick Warren
I had to make an unexpected
hospital visit over the weekend. Someone who is a faithful supporter of our
ministry, and a friend, had a few problems and had to have some tests run. I
have made many visits to the hospital over the last few years, however I
noticed something on this trip that I had never seen before. The nurses,
doctors and staff are not worried about what you do for a living, or what your
status is in the community; they are just there to get you well.
My
friend is very successful. He has impacted the world around him. He knows
power. He knows fame. But on this particular weekend he has been placed on
equal footing with his neighbor in the bed down the hall.
As I was
allowing these thoughts to sink in to my less than soft head, it hit me that we
enter this world on that very same type of footing. We are born and then placed
in a hospital nursery with a bunch of other screaming babies. No one knows what
we will become. We are all starting at the same starting line...and we will all
finish at the same finish line. What does Gods Word
say?:
Everything you do or say should be done to obey Jesus your
Lord. And in all you do, give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.
Colossians 3:17
Do not change yourselves to be
like the people of this world, but be changed within by a new way of thinking.
Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is
good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. Romans
12:2
If you are like me, then you can answer with ease what
you do. However, do you know what you are? When the rat race of life is
removed, and the playing field is equalized, who are you? Maybe a better
question might be...WHOSE are you?
Don't allow what you do determine
who you are, allow who you are determine what you do!!
Just a thought!
