What do you do when discouragement visits your
life? Is self-pity your answer? Do you blame others for the hand life dealt
you? Or, do you blame God?
I have seen two responses at a real time of
despair. I have seen some turn from God and I have seen others turn to God. I
have often wondered what you turn to when you turn away from the Creator of the
universe! Maybe it is drugs, alcohol, pornography, or a relationship.
What does God's Word say?:
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 Two
people can accomplish more than twice as much as one; they get a better return
for their labor. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But
people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble.
Proverbs
3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own
understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths.
Through a personal relationship with Christ we can have a friend for
eternity. Even when friends and family let us down, Christ promises to "never
leave us, or forsake us."
However, in addition to our relationship with
Christ, it is my prayer that you have someone (spouse, co-worker, family,
teammate, etc.) who is a dear friend and can be a source of encouragement when
things seem their worst. If you don't have that "someone" then I challenge you
to find one. The best way to make a friend is to be a friend! If you
are down then open up, and let a friend pick you up. If you are OK, then look
around, someone might need you!
Why not give Christ the praise and
gratitude He deserves? Be thankful for how He has rescued you...today!
