"A truly happy person is one who can enjoy
the scenery on a detour." -Unknown
I have experienced a little "detour" this past
week. I had some minor surgery done on my foot and I'm not suppose to put any
weight on it for at least a week. I didn't think too much of those instructions
at the time, but now that I'm in day five...I about to go crazy. Have you ever
tried to get around on crutches and keep your foot firmly planted in mid air?
Everything becomes an adventure.
Let's just say I'm struggling to "enjoy the
scenery" on this little detour. When you are dependent on others to get things
for you, drive you places and serve you...it brings on new levels of humility.
I'm ashamed to admit how my pride has not wanted to be waited on, but this is
yet another one of God's neat little lessons for one of His hard headed,
prideful and impatient children...me!
What does Gods Word say?:
The
end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than
pride. Ecclesiastes 7:8
Whether you are going through a week of
inconvenience on crutches or maybe your detour is something much bigger...lost
job, illness, broken relationship, etc. Know that God has a purpose and plan.
Know that when you stay close to Christ the end of the matter is going to be
better than the beginning. Know that in the midst of your circumstances, it is
almost a sure bet that God wants you (me) to learn patience not pride.
So maybe today is the day you slow
down and enjoy the scenery. Enjoy the lessons learned in adversity. Enjoy the
detour!
Just a thought!
